What are the humanities?

Scholars in the humanities are all concerned to varying degrees with the exploration of human culture through the analysis and interpretation of ideas as they are represented in sound, voice, image, text, and other material forms. For this reason, students in the humanities must be particularly attentive to the importance of research as they seek to discover earlier analyses and interpretations of their objects of study. Philosophers, historians, literary critics, and religious studies scholars all have a stake in the humanities.
