Theses and dissertations are extended scholarly essays that incorporate original research on a specific topic. They are usually written as part of the requirements for a graduate degree (e.g. MA or PhD).

Dissertations can be especially useful in locating research that has not been published yet. Many dissertations are revised and published as books or articles. To find these, search for the author(s) in the library catalog or an article database.
