Coming into Force & Proclamation Information

Table of Public Statutes and Responsible Ministers.

Legal researchers often need to find out the updates to some legislation. The Table of Public Statutes provides updates of legislation after they have been revised and consolidated. Many of these tables are available electronically but a few are still in print.

Canada gazette Part III (Check under heading “Proclamations of Canada and Orders in Council relating to the coming into force of Acts”).

Alberta Queen's Printer: Proclamations.
British Columbia
Consolidated Provisions in Force: 1997 Session to 2011 Sessions. Lists all statutes enacted, amended or repealed between the 1997 Session and 2011 Sessions of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. No longer being updated. To obtain statute details after the 2011 Session, refer to the statutes' Table of Legislative Changes available on BC Laws. (See under Table of Public Statutes tab)
Manitoba
List of Acts and parts of Acts coming into force by proclamation.
New Brunswick
Provides access to annual volumes of the Acts of New Brunswick. Each annual volume contains several schedules listing all the proclamation dates.
Newfoundland and Labrador
The website of the House of Assembly of Newfoundland & Labrador provides a list of table of acts subject to proclamation.
Northwest Territories
Check the “Table of Public Statutes to be brought into Force by Order” at the back of the annual statute volumes. Part I (pink pages). In print only (Stats-Can N735).
Nova Scotia
Click on Proclamations on the left side of the screen.
Nunavut
Coming into force orders are published in the Nunavut Gazette, Part II.
Ontario
In the Consolidated Laws click on Legislative History at the beginning of each act.
Price Edward Island
The Table of Public Statutes provides proclamation dates and the sections included if the whole act is not proclaimed immediately.

Quebec
These Tables of Provisions Brought into Force provides users with the date of coming into force of every section in the Statutes of Québec assented to since 1 January 1978.
Saskatchewan
The website of the Law Society of Saskatchewan Library lists the proclamation dates of Saskatchewan statutes that require a proclamation date to come into force.
Yukon
Check for proclamation notices in the Yukon Gazette, Part I.
