Researching Canadian Legislation & Parliamentary Materials: Repealed Statutes

Every year, the Minister of Justice tables an annual report prepared in accordance with the Statutes Repeal Act in both Houses of Parliament. Annual reports list Acts and provisions of Acts that have not been brought into force within at least nine years of their enactment. All Acts and provisions listed in an annual report will be repealed on December 31 in the year in which the report is tabled unless they are brought into force or are repealed before that date or unless a resolution deferring their repeal is adopted by one of the Houses of Parliament before that date.

Repealed statutes can be accessed through the sources below; some are subscriptions available to Osgoode/York University faculty and students only.

The Canada Statute Service features the Consolidated 1985 Revised Statutes of Canada. On the left-hand column, select the Table of Contents and click on Repealed Statutes. This gives you an alphabetical listing of repealed statutes.
Access is restricted to Osgoode Hall Law School and York University faculty and students.

This link provides access to repealed statutes, revoked and spent regulations in the province of Ontario. Check the box in front of " Repealed/Revoked/Spent". The result provides the legislative history of the legislation.

The Ontario Citator Service features Acts and Regulations from the consolidated Revised Statutes of Ontario 1990. On the left-hand column, select the Table of Contents and click on Repealed Statutes.
