Precise Searching for Newspapers

For more precise and comprehensive searching, you will need to consult our Newspaper Research Guide, and search individual databases.

While Omni does offer a newspaper search feature, there are some notable issues with the reliability of this search in accurately reflecting the rich content that York University Libraries subscribe to online.

Newspaper Searches in Omni

Newspapers are searched separately in Omni.  

Follow these steps to find Canadian, American or international newspapers, in Omni:

Step 1:  Click on the ellipsis (or final three dots) in the Omni main menu.

 

Step 2: Click on the Newspapers Search icon.

Step 3: Run a simple search to determine the breadth of coverage on your topic.

 

Step 4: Refine your search if you get an overwhelming number of results.

There are more than 9,000 articles about Gord DowniePublication Date or Subject are useful limits. Even limiting the search by what is Available online will help with this quick newspaper search. The Boolean operator AND can make your search results more focused. For example, to find articles about Gord Downie and activism, you could run a search like this:
