Use a Style Guide to format your bibliography

Proper citation is important for all scholarly work. Style guides provide detailed information about how to cite various types of references (books, articles, web sites, etc.) in your bibliography and footnotes.

Choose a style guide appropriate to your discipline from the list of style guides, below. (The online versions are abridged, while the print versions are unabridged.)

  • MLA style (Modern Language Association). Used in the humanities. Online    Print 
  • Chicago Manual of Style. Used in the social sciences & humanities. Online    Print
  • Chicago Manual of Style.  (Guide for students - Turabian.) Online    Print
  • APA style (American Psychological Association).  Used in education, the social sciences & humanities. Online    Print
