Industry Journals/Publications

These publications contain articles with practical information for researching an industry or profession including industry trends, new products or techniques, and organizational news. Use these databases to search for industry journals/publications.

When using these databases, note that it is possible to limit your search to trade publications which includes industry journals/magazines.

Many of these publications are available online, but the Bronfman Business Library at the Schulich School of Business also has some titles in print.

Proquest Business
Simultaneously search all business & industry periodicals available through Proquest Central, including the ABI/Inform databases, concentrated publications on the pharmaceutical, banking, computing and telecommunications industries and Canadian, Asian and European business news.

Business Source Complete
Offers premium content including peer-reviewed and business-related journals, magazines and newspapers, including scholarly, trade, and popular titles. Other content includes business e-books, case studies, company profiles, country economic reports, faculty seminar videos, industry reports, executive and analyst interviews, market research reports, SWOT analyses, and working paper collections.
Canadian Business & Current Affairs Database
A useful database for researching topics related to Canadian current affairs, business matters and public policy. Also useful to search for material on world issues seen from a Canadian perspective. Includes scholarly, trade, and popular journals and magazines and some newspaper coverage. Coverage is from 1982 - present.
ABI Inform Trade and Industry
Covers more than 700 publications. It's designed to help researchers study and compare specific trades and industries, including telecommunications, computing, transportation, construction, petrochemicals, and many others.

Industry Reports/Analysis - Selected Key Resources

IBISWorld
Includes niche Canadian, U.S., and global industry reports and a business environment database. Many of the industry reports are for smaller industries not included in other databases which the business library subscribes to (i.e. accountants, doctors, therapists)

Procurement Reports include over 1,000 business-to-business product and service markets in the United States and facilitate industry research especially in areas such as purchasing, supply chain management, and strategic sourcing.
FitchConnect
Contains quarterly surveys and forecasts and news on industries by country and region. Review our step-by-step FitchConnect guide to learn how to navigate this database. Please note, the library's subscription does not cover all of the content in this database.
Mergent Online

On entering the database, click on Industry Analysis, then Historical Industry Reports. 31 different industry sectors are available including coverage for North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America.
Marketline Advantage
Includes industry reports and market profiles for industries globally including Canada and the United States.
Passport
An online market research tool that monitors industry trends and gives strategic analysis and a market size and market share database for all products across all key countries. Passport is Euromonitor International's global market analysis software platform, which analyses the industry in countries around the world.

This guide contains many useful library databases and web sites for doing research on the non-profit sector in both Canada and the United States.

Professional Associations/Organizations

Associations Canada
Provides a comprehensive listing of Canadian Associations and provides their contact information and web site details. Associations may provide additional industry statistical information, contacts for individuals and companies, as well as detailed information on the industry as a whole.
Gateway to Associations
This directory supports searching of associations in North America including trade associations.
