Generally speaking, the government sets out economic policy through the presentation of a Budget once a year and economic statements at other times of the year. The Business of Supply is the vehicle whereby where the government submits its projected annual expenditures for parliamentary approval through Supply Bills.

  • Speeches from the Throne (1975+)
    The Speech from the Throne sets forth in detail the government's views on the province's economic conditions and provides some indication of what it intends to do in the coming Session. They are delivered at the beginning of each Session and are reproduced in the Legislative Assembly Hansard (debates). If it is the 1st Session following an election then the Speech is delivered at the 2nd Sitting. If it is other then the first session, it is delivered at the 2nd Sitting. From 1975 to the present they are found on the Legislative Assembly website. To locate them, navigate to the Session of interest.
  • Ontario Budget 
    A financial roadmap that sets the priorities for government spending. It is normally accompanied by analytical documents, charts, and so on. It is tabled in the Legislative Assembly and accompanied by a speech by the Finance Minister. For previous years, go to the Details page. 
  • Fall Statement and Economic Outlook
    Interim assessment updating the economic assumptions from the budget and used to revise revenue and expenditure projections for the current fiscal year. For previous years, go to the Details page. 
  • Expenditure Estimates (2001+)
    Detailed plan of expenditures by Department or Agency.  For previous years, go to the Details page.

    A detailed account of the spending, by Department or Agency. For previous years, go to the Details page.
