Data Visualization: Citing data visualizations

For citations for academic papers, follow the guidelines of each citation style to properly cite a data visualization. The format of the citation will differ depending on how the data visualization is being used:

• A reproduction of a data visualization
• An adapted or modified version of a data visualization
• The data from a data visualization 

It will also depend on where the data visualization was obtained, for example from a journal article or a website.
