Music: bibliographies & discographies

omni

Search Omni @ YUL

Omni is the library's online catalogue and includes records for both the physical and electronic collections. Article citations are drawn from periodical indexes and fulltext databases and interfiled with other resources in the search results so once you have performed your search it is best to begin narrowing down the results by choosing the available facets in the left hand column.

bibliographies & discographies

There are numerous published bibliographies (lists of resources), discographies, guides, and handbooks available through Omni, but a few that stand out are the Routledge Music Bibliographies and Scarecrow Press' American Folk Music and Musicians. There are many other series and individual titles, most of which appear in a search using the subject heading "Music--Bibliography". For discographies, search a performer's name, label, genre, or style and the terms "Discography" or "Guide".

Oxford Bibliographies Online has a comprehensive subset for music, with 235 topics curated and annotated by peer-reviewed scholars in the field.

The Jazz Discography collates information from the entire range of previously published discographies, such as Bruyninckx, Jepsen, Raben, and Rust, including updates.

All Music: probably the most comprehensive and up-to-date source of reviews of recordings, including biographical sketches.
