Industry Research: Statistics

Canadian Industry Statistics (CIS) analyses industry data on many economic indicators using the most recent data from Statistics Canada. CIS looks at industry trends and financial information, such as GDP, Labour Productivity, Manufacturing and Trade data.

Contains monthly estimates of gross domestic product for key industries. The table can be customized by date range, by seasonally adjusted 2012 prices, and trading-day adjusted prices. Additional historical GDP data from 2000 to 2012 can be accessed via an archived page on Statistics Canada's website.

The Industrial Product Price Index measures price changes for major commodities sold by manufacturers operating in Canada. This index provides current and historical monthly data. Review the Related Information Tab at the bottom of the webpage for information on sources.

Canadian Business Counts provides counts of active businesses by industry classification and employment-size categories for Canada and the provinces and territories. In June 2015, Canadian Business Patterns (CBP) changed its name to Canadian Business Counts (CBC). CBP covers 1988-2014 and CBC covers 2015-current. Data from both is available on the Odesi platform, linked above. When in Odesi, select the Browse option, and then select the category Business and Finacial, then click on Canadian Business Counts. Click on the year needed, and then use the download option to access CBC/CBP data in Beyond 20/20 (ivt) format. You can download Beyond 20/20 software for Windows from the Statistics Canada website.

This annual publication provides data that describe number of (1) active employer businesses; (2) entrants; (3) incumbents; (4) exits; and (5) entry and exit rates by industry in Canada from 2001 to 2020. Scroll down to the bottom of the webpage to view data sources and related products.

The Annual Survey of Manufacturing and Logging Industries (ASML) provides sample estimates of statistics for all manufacturing establishments with one or more paid employees. Includes industry statistics for manufacturing establishments statistics at the three-, four-, five-, and six-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) levels.

Provides links to summary statistics from multiple data collection programs pertaining to U.S. economy. Includes Economic Census, County Business Patterns, Statistics of U.S. Businesses and Foreign Trade (Exports by State).

Over 100 industries are covered.The data are based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) supersector, sector, and industry level and it is possible to browse industries available alphabetically or by NAiCS code. Statistics include workforce statistics, earnings and hours, prices, fatalities, injuries and illness and more.

The industry economic accounts are presented both in an input-output framework and as annual output (GDP) by each industry. They offer a detailed view of the interrelationships between U.S. producers and consumers/buyers and the contribution to production across industries.

This database provides access to time series from numerous DRI-WEFA databanks covering economic, financial, and demographic statistics. Geographic coverage, date range, and periodicity vary by series and databank, with some series dating back to the 1920s. The Census of Canada provides demographic and statistical data about Canadians through domestic surveys.

"Established in 2007, (Ontario Data Documentation, Extraction Service and Infrastructure) is a digital repository for social science data, including polling data. It is a web-based data exploration, extraction and analysis tool that uses the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) social science data standard."

This is the National Data Book of the United States published by the U.S. Census Bureau. It is a collection of statistics on economic and social conditions in the United States. Includes population, labour force, education, income data and much more. Note that the most recent edition is purchased from Proquest in print format, and available at the Libraries, including at the Bronfman Business Library, Reference Room, Call No. HA 202 A3 2021

This source provides basic data for U.S. business establishments. A major survey is conducted every five years, with access to smaller annual surveys and yearly business patterns. Searches may be performed via industry, geographic area, subject, and more!

The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 266 world entities.

This agency is involved with the banking, and the monetary system in the United States. Statistical data includes money, exchange, household finance, and much more.

This index provides a compilation of almost 30 United Nations and agency databases in search function. Resources come from over 60 million data points from a wide variety of subjects.

World Development Indicators (WDI) is the World Bank's annual compilation of data about development. WDI includes over 900 indicators covering a wide range of topics, with time series for 226 countries and country groups from 1960 to the present, where data are available.
