Osgoode journals are required to publish with a Creative Commons (CC) License. The use of CC licenses is widely recognized as a best practice for open access journals. Many open access indexes require a CC licence or similar. These licences do not alter the copyright status of an article, but rather provide clear guidelines to readers regarding how the work can be reused without seeking permission from the author or publisher, based on the specific license chosen.
You can allow authors to select the license for their published articles or use a default licence. Osgoode Digital Commons strongly recommends the CC BY-NC 4.0 licence.
If assistance is needed in choosing an appropriate license for your journal, Creative Commons offers a useful tool: http://creativecommons.org/choose.
Displaying the CC licencing information is done on behalf of the journals by the Osgoode Digital Commons publishing platform. For example, https://digitalcommons.osgoode.yorku.ca/scholarly_works/2996/

The publication agreement is a legal document that clearly states what rights belong to the author and the publisher. Osgoode encourages the practice of Diamond Open Access which means authors are not charged a fee and retain all rights to their work to reuse, remix, and deposit work.
Have the publication agreement available on your website for authors to review before they submit their work.
