Overview

Saving items to your Zotero Library is the first step to collecting and organizing your research, and is crucial to generate accurate citations for those items. You can add items to your Library by:

Please see the links above for more detailed information on how to add items. Note: to save items to your Library from your web browser, Zotero must be open on your computer.

Below is an example of a Zotero Library. Note the different icons for various resource types, and how the Library is organized in three separate panels. The left panel displays your different collections, while the middle panel contains the items in a particular collection. The right panel contains a selected item's information, which Zotero will use to create citations. You can edit the information in this right panel at any time.

Saving Other Items

Zotero displays icons for different item types including:

  • books
  • articles
  •  multiple items
  • PDFs
  • newspapers
  •  pictures
  • video1 videos
