OverDrive is a popular platform that provides access to ebooks and audio books.

  • Content is multidisciplinary
  • Most titles restricted to one user at a time
  • Loan periods are normally 7, 14, and 21 days although some titles have a loan period of 1 day
  • Users are restricted to three books at one time
  • Books can be renewed if no holds are placed by other users
  • Holds can be placed on borrowed books

Accessing OverDrive eBooks and Audio Books

Ebooks and Audio Books available via OverDrive can be discovered in Omni, by browsing or searching the OverDrive platform directly, or by installing and connecting the Libby App on mobile devices.

Borrowing and Reading via Browser

To borrow a title from OverDrive using your browser, follow these steps:

1. Click Borrow.

2. Authenticate using your Passport York or Library Barcode credentials.

3. Select your desired loan period. In most cases, options are 7, 14, or 21 days although some titles may have shorter loan period options.

Borrowing and Reading via the Libby App

1. Download Libby, the Library App from the App Store (iOS devices) or Google Play (Android devices).

2. To access York University Libraries content on Libby, you need to connect it to your library account.

Once connected, you can browse, search for, and borrow books.
