Social Assistance Resources: Nunavut

Eligibility:
- Any person 18 years of age and older in financial need living in Nunavut may apply for Income Assistance.
- You will be required to have a monthly financial assessment completed with an Income Assistance Worker.
- You will be required to develop a Productive Choice with your Income Assistance Worker to become more self-sufficient. Productive Choices may include upgrading of your schooling, training, parenting under certain circumstances, employment, community work, harvesting and/or individual mental health or alcohol and drug counseling. (Individuals who have a disability or are over the age of 60 are exempt from engaging in a productive choice).

Aged Incidental and Disabled Incidental Allowance are available, with the following eligibility requirements:
- To receive the Disabled Incidental Allowance, the client must be considered disabled from a medical point of view. A physician (or Registered Nurse in communities without a physician) must complete a Certificate of Disability form and the client must submit it to an Income Assistance Worker (IAW). The purpose of the Incidental Allowance is to help the client maintain their quality of life.
- For the Aged Incidental Allowance, the client must have reached their 60th birthday.

EHB is made available for:
- Nunavut residents with a valid Nunavut health card who are non-Indigenous residents with one of the specified conditions
- non-Indigenous residents who are seniors, age 65 and older
- all residents who have exhausted their third-party insurance or who have no medical travel benefits.

Eligibility:
- must be 60 years of age or older and are receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) or the Spouse’s Allowance from the federal government are eligible.

To be eligible for this subsidy, applicants must:
- Permanently reside in Nunavut
- Be 60 years of age or older
- Own and live in the home for which the subsidy is being requested
- Meet the allowable established income threshold
- NOT be in receipt of social assistance
- Apply each year

Eligibility:
- your family must have earned income of at least $3,750 in the previous year.
- The Nunavut Child Benefit is a cash benefit paid to families with a net income of $20,921 or less.
These families receive $330 per year for each eligible child under the age of 18 living at home.

In order to determine whether you qualify for these benefits administered under the Canada Child Tax Benefit program, you must file your yearly tax returns.

Eligibility:
- Applicants must reside in Nunavut
- 18 years of age or older with a child(ren) under the age of 12.
- Those applying for the subsidy must be employed or enrolled in a training and/or education program.

Eligibility:
- Not receiving the day care user subsidy funded by the Department of Education
- You must be the parent or legal guardian of a child or children who need care
- Enrolled in a full-time program of study for middle or high school within Nunavut or under the age of 18 years of age and enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program of study within Nunavut
- Student prepared letter of why this subsidy is important to them
- Application form signed by a school counsellor or principal.
- Sign an agreement to attend full-time and to commit to progressing in studies
- Not receiving funding from a Regional Inuit Organization.
- Space available at a licensed childcare facility or with a private unlicensed caregiver (only with approval from the Department when licensed childcare is not available)
- Evidence of satisfactory attendance- Evidence of satisfactory progress
