Below is a list a GIS (geospatial) data resources that are available to students and faculty at York University, who are doing research about Costa Rica and the region surrounding York University's Eco-Campus in Costa Rica. List of the Map Library's print resources.

Worldview2 Satellite Image of the Las Nubes Region - Costa Rica
Worldview 2 Satellite Image of York University's Las Nubes eco-campus and surrounding area. This georeferenced satellite image can be used as a raster layer in GIS, as well as for remote sensing analysis. Consists of two images, a multispectral (colour – 8 bands) and a panchromatic (black and white). For more details about this dataset, please consult the metadata. This satellite image is only available to students and faculty at York University and the University of Costa Rica. It may only be used for research and educational purposes. To acquire the data use Geoportal. For students of University of Costa Rica and Centro Cientifico Tropical, contact gislib@yorku.ca to acquire the data.
Costa Rica - GIS Data from Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN)
The Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) is the federal government agency of Costa Rica that produces cartographic and geograpahic information about Costa Rica. The Sistema Nacional de Información Territorial (SNIT) is the gateway to the maps and data. It is only available in Spanish. The geospatial (GIS) datasets can be accessed via their web feature mapping services (WFS) located on the Servicios OGC webpage. DIVA GIS - Costa Rica GIS Data
Includes administrative areas, inland water, roads, railroads, elevation, land cover, population, and climate data.
Global Land Cover Facility
This website provides access to vegetation cover data. It includes MODIS data [Leaf Area Index, Vegetation Continuous Fields (VCF), Vegetative Cover Conversion (VCC), Vegetation Index (NDVI)] and AVHRR data (Land Cover Classification and Leaf Area Index).
Organization for Tropical Studies
The Organization for Tropical Studies website has GIS datasets of three different biological stations situated in Costa Rica.
Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) 1 Arc-Second - Via Earth Explorer
The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission 1 Arc-Second (30 metre resolution) digital elevation model is the highest resolution available for global wide coverage. EarthExporer can be used to search, preview, and download SRTM Global data. The SRTM collections are located under the Digital Elevation category.
