This research guide provides information on how to access Geospatial (GIS) data at York University.

QGIS

QGIS is a free and open-source cross-platform desktop geographic information system (GIS) application that supports viewing, editing, and analysis of geospatial data. QGIS supports both vector and raster layers. Vector data is stored as either point, line, or polygon features and a multiple file formats are supported, including shapefiles. Multiple formats of raster images and data are supported as well.  QGIS is available for Windows Operating Systems, MacOS systems, and Linux OS. 

Downloading and Accessing QGIS

To download the software onto your personal workstation or laptop go to: https://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html.
