The Scott Library Map Collection Holdings List is a complete list of all of the print maps that are housed in the map collection room. The maps listed are arranged by call number and geographical area. It includes the scale, title, publisher, data of publication and the number of copies of each map in the series.
The Holdings List is located in the white binders on top of the first set of cabinets in the Map Collection room. To find a map using the Holdings List, please follow these steps:
- Look up the area you are looking for in the first half of the AREA/SUBJECT LISTING: the blue booklets on the top of the first row of blue map cabinets. For the subject, look in the second half of the same booklet.
- Understanding the map call number: the AREA and SUBJECT are the main parts of a map call number. With these, you can find all maps in our library. Example: Map Call Number G/3484/M6 A4/100/1988.
- With the area range you have chosen, check the Map Collection Holdings List (the white binder on the first row of blue map cabinets) for a list of the maps within the chosen area.

- Look at the cabinet listings next to the bank end for the cabinet number containing your area.
- Go to the appropriate cabinet number.
- Look at the labels on each drawer and open the correct drawer.
- The call number is written on the lower right corner of each map.
- Pull out the map you want to use. All materials used should be left on top of the map cabinets. Please don not refile maps taken from the drawer.
You can also check the online Library Catalogue, however not all maps are listed. If you need help, please go to the Ask Us desk at the entrance of the Scott Library..
