Public Services Manual: Microtext

General Information

On Keele campus, Scott Library Room 118 is the main location with microtext readers/printers. Frost also has a microtext reader/printer. Microtext borrowed from other campus libraries can be viewed at Scott or Frost.

Microtext Overview

Microtext readers

Microfilm collections are shelved in cabinets to the right of the entrance. Newspapers on film are alphabetically organized. Microfiche collections are held in the upright cabinets. Users should not re-shelve items, but put on Returns table.

  1. Log in to microtext reader station with Passport York or guest account
  2. Directions for loading microfilm and using reader are posted at the reader station
  3. Use a USB drive to save scanned images, or print images using a YU-card

  • 3 Image Data Scanpro 2000 scanners
  • 3 Minolta RP 605Z microfilm reader printers READ ONLY
Frost Library
  • On a table near the back of the library, beside the grad study room
Steacie Library
  • A microprint reader still exists! (for opaque vs. negative microprint/microcard formats)

Reporting Issues/Contacts

For assistance with microtext & readers, patrons can use the black wall phone located on the right when you enter Room 118.

Users can also report issues to staff at the 1st floor circulation desk in Scott.
