  • Aboriginal Demography - Population, Household and Family Projections 2001-2026 (Indian & Northern Affairs Canada). Note: Aboriginal refers to First Nation peoples, Métis, and Inuit.
  • Annual Demographic Estimates: Subprovincial areas
    This publication presents annual estimates of population for census metropolitan areas, economic regions and census divisions of Canada as well as estimates of the following components of population change: births, deaths, immigration, emigration, returning emigration, net temporary emigration, net non-permanent residents and inter-provincial and intra-provincial migration. The estimates are based on the 2001 Census results, which have been adjusted for net census under coverage. This publication contains the most recent five (5) years estimates. It also contains highlights and analysis of the most current demographic trends, and a description of the concepts, methods and data quality of the estimates.
  • Canadian Human Mortality Database (CHMD)
    The Canadian Human Mortality Database (CHMD) was created to provide detailed Canadian mortality and population data to researchers, students, journalists, policy analysts, and others interested in the history of human longevity. The CHMD is a "satellite" of the Human Mortality Database (HMD), an international database which currently holds detailed data for 37 countries or regions. The CHMD gathers all required data (deaths counts, births counts, population size, exposure-to-risk, death rates) to compute life tables for Canada, its provinces and its territories. One of the great advantages of the database is to include data that is validated and corrected, when required, and rendered comparable, if possible, for the period ranging from 1921 thru 2006.

    This site contains information from the Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, since 1996. A statistical profile is presented for all Canadian communities (cities, towns, villages, Indian Reserves and Settlements, etc.) highlighting information on education, income and work, families and dwellings, as well as general population information (as it becomes available). A mapping feature is available for viewing the location of a community within Canada.
  • Deaths
    These statistical tables present the numbers of deaths and death rates by marital status, age and sex for Canada, the 10 provinces and 3 territories. Also presented are data on infant, neonatal, post-neonatal and perinatal deaths; deaths in hospital; and deaths subject to autopsy.
  • Ethnic Diversity Survey
    This survey was conducted jointly by Statistics Canada and the Department of Canadian Heritage. Topics covered in the survey include ethnic ancestry, ethnic identity, place of birth, visible minority status, religion, religious participation, knowledge of languages, family background, family interaction, social networks, civic participation, interaction with society, attitudes, satisfaction with life, trust and socio-economic activities. The Ethnic Diversity Survey (EDS) was a post-2001 census survey which included about 42,500 people aged 15 and over.

  • Population projections for Canada, provinces and territories (Statistics Canada)
    This report presents the results of six population projection scenarios by age group and sex up to 2036 for the provinces and territories and up to 2061 for Canada. Using the July 1, 2009 population estimate as the starting point, these projections are based on assumptions that take into account the most recent trends relating to components of population growth, particularly fertility, mortality, immigration, emigration and interprovincial migration.

    This publication presents quarterly estimates of population for Canada, provinces and territories as well as statistics on the following components of population change: births, deaths, immigration, emigration, returning emigration, net temporary emigration, net non-permanent residents and interprovincial migration, the latter by origin and destination. The publication contains the most recent estimates as well as a quarterly postcensal historical series. This publication also contains highlights, an analysis of the most current demographic trends, and a brief description of the methods used to generate the estimates.

  • Census database: Population and Housing (E.U.)
    The Census database is the result of a major joint effort by the European Statistical System (ESS) to better disseminate the results of the Population and Housing Censuses in Europe, providing users with easy access to detailed census data that are structured in the same way and methodologically comparable between countries. t should be noted that the census data disseminated here are not microdata; they are aggregated data structured according to the tables agreed with Member States and defined in the legal implementing rules for the census.

  • Demographic Yearbook, 1948-present (U.N.)
    The Demographic Yearbook disseminates statistics on population size and composition, births, deaths, marriage and divorce on an annual basis. Demographic Yearbook special topics issues cover a wide range of additional topics including economic activity, educational attainment, household characteristics, housing, ethnicity and language, among others.

  • Human Mortality Database
    The Human Mortality Database (HMD) contains original calculations of death rates and life tables for national populations (countries or areas), as well as the input data used in constructing those tables. The input data consist of death counts from vital statistics, plus census counts, birth counts, and population estimates from various sources.
  • Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (U.S.)
    "The IPUMS consists of twenty-five high-precision samples of the American population drawn from thirteen federal censuses. Some of these samples have existed for years, and others were created specifically for this database. The twenty-five samples, which span the censuses of 1850 to 1990, collectively comprise our richest source of quantitative information on long-term changes in the American population."
  • International Data Base (IDB) (U.S.)
    "The International Data Base (IDB) was developed by the U.S. Census Bureau to provide access to accurate and timely demographic measures for populations around the world. The database includes a comprehensive set of indicators, as produced by the U.S. Census Bureau since the 1960s. Through sponsorship from various U.S. Government agencies, the IDB is updated on a regular basis to provide information needed for research, program planning, and policy-making decisions, in the U.S. and globally."

    Multiple data sets including: (1) Population Census of Japan (1995, 2000, 2005, 2010), (2) Establishment and Enterprise Census of Japan (1999, 2001, 2004, 2006), and (3) Economic Census of Japan (2009). Although stored on Amazon Web Services servers, the data originate with the Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan.

  • World Development Indicators
    The primary World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized international sources. It presents the most current and accurate global development data available, and includes national, regional and global estimates. The database covers more than 1200 indicators for 210 economies with data back to 1960.
  • World Population and Housing Census Programme (U.N.)
    The 2020 World Population and Housing Census Programme was approved by the Statistical Commission at its 46th session and adopted by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in resolution E/RES/2015/10. The Programme recognizes population and housing censuses as one of the primary sources of data needed for formulating, implementing and monitoring policies and programmes aimed at inclusive socioeconomic development and environmental sustainability. It further recognizes population and housing censuses as an important source for supplying disaggregated data needed for the measurement of progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially in the context of assessing the situation of people by income, sex, age, race, ethnicity, migratory status, disability and geographic location, or other characteristics.
