Scholarly Journal Article Examples

Type Example
Works Cited List Citation

Author's Last Name, First Name, and Second Author's First Name Last Name. "Title of Article: Subtitle if Any." Name of Journal, vol. Volume Number, no. Issue Number, Date of Publication, pp. First Page Number-Last Page Number. Name of Database, doi:DOI number.

Note 1: A digital object identifier (DOI) is a unique, persistent URL for a digital resource such as an e-Book or article and is preferred to a URL when available. Include the https:// or http:// with a DOI. If the DOI does not have https:// or http://, then add https:/doi.org/ at the beginning of the DOI.

Example:

Salafia, Elizabeth Blodgett, and Jessica Lemer. "Associations Between Multiple Types of Stress and Disordered Eating Among Girls and Boys in Middle School." Journal of Child and Family Studies, vol. 21, no. 1, 2012, pp.148-57. Proquest Sociology, https://doi.org/10.1007/s10826-011-9458-z.

Note 2: Only the first author listed appears in "Last Name, First Name" format. The second author's name is separated by a comma with the word "and" before the second author's name. If an article has three or more authors, use the following format: Author's Last Name, First Name et al. (Example: Ricardo, John et al.)

Note 1: If a DOI is available for a source, it is preferred to a URL.

Note 2: When including a URL in your citation, copy the full URL but do not include http:// or https://. Avoid using links generated by services like bit.ly, as they are very likely to change and not work at a later date.
