This guide provides examples for citing business resources in APA, MLA, and Chicago citation styles.

Newspaper & Magazine Article Examples

Type Example
Works Cited List Citation

Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article: Subtitle if Any." Name of Newspaper [City of newspaper if local and not in name], Date of Publication, p. Page number if given. Name of Database, URL.

Note 1: If the author's name is not listed, begin the citation with the title of the article.

Note 2: You do not need to include a newspaper's city of publication if it is a national newspaper, eg. The Wall Street Journal.

Example:

Schmidt, Sarah. "Companies Fail the Test; Junk Food Marketing Aimed at Kids Faulted." The Gazette [Montreal], 10 Mar. 2010, p. A.11. Factiva, global.factiva.com/ha/default.aspx#./!?&_suid=1650483681410036695069062714736.

Note 3: If an article ends with a question mark or exclamation mark (!), you do not need to add a period to mark the end of the title.

Note: If there is no author listed, the in-text citation would include the first word or words of the title of the article in quotation marks, e.g. ("Companies").

 

Type Example
Works Cited List Citation

Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article: Subtitle if Any." Title of website, Name of Newspaper [City if local and not in name], Date of Publication, URL. 

Note 1: If the author's name is not listed, begin the citation with the title of the article.

Note 2: The title of website should only include .com, if it is an official part of the website name.

Note 3:  You don't need to include a newspaper's city of publication if it is a national newspaper, eg. The Wall Street Journal.

Morrison, Malcolm. "TSX Recovers on Greece News." thestar.com, Toronto Star, 23 June 2011, www.thestar.com/business/economy/2011/06/23/tsx_recovers_on_greece_news.html.

Note 1: This entry has no page numbers, so this information is left out of the citation.

Note 2:  If there is no author listed, the in-text citation would include the first word or words of the title of the article in quotation marks, e.g. ("TSX Recovers").

Note: If the magazine article is not from the magazine's own website, use the same method as 'Magazine Article - Library Database'.
